This page will give you a general idea of what equipment you will need to bring with you. (If you print this page out then you can use it as a checklist.)
You do not need to bring a landing net or unhooking mat as these are available at the lakes.
Rules & Regulations
- Minimum line: 15lb (7 kg) breaking strain
- Please DO use unhooking mats
- Please DO NOT use nuts as bait
- Please DO NOT use braided line
- Please DO NOT leave rods unattended
- We have a catch-and-release policy: all fish must be released unharmed
Fishing For Big Carp
- Carp rods - you are not limited to three, but obviously the more you have cast out the more tangles are likely.
- Reels - bait-runner types are best... and the more ball-bearings the better!
- Line - 15lb minimum breaking strain
- Rigs - Hair rigs with braided line with either barbed or microbarb hooks are preferable. You can use barbless if you wish.
- Rod Pods - much easier than rod-rests.
- Optonic Bite Alarms / Monkey Climbers - essential so that you know when the action is about to start!
- Baits - Scopex tutti-fruitti boillies. There is a good supply of baits, corn and boillies in the local village store. We do also have a supply of carp granules, corn and pigeon food.
- Bait Distribution Devices (catapult, bait-boats.....) - helpful but not essential since we have a small rowing boat which you can use to deposit your rigs and ground-feed accurately
- Camera - to capture for posterity any of the Ghost Carp Lake monsters you may catch!
Fishing For Big Pike
The above rods and reels will be suitable, although you may want to bring specific rods built for catching pike.

- Metal traces - to stop pike biting through your line!
- A selection of artificial lures.
- Treble hooks.
- Pike bungs (large floats for livebaiting / deadbaiting).
If you've been to Ghost Carp Lake and caught one or more of our specimens and would like to share your tactics and/or the equipment you used with other potential visiting anglers, then please send us details using our contact form.
