January 2008

We'd like to wish all our new and returning visitors a Happy New Year! After our huge netting and re-stock at the end of the year, our lakes are now full to the brim. In January we topped the big lake up with just a few more carp, and also an extra half-dozen small pike to clear the lake of small nuisance fish. So now everything is set for some fantastic fishing during 2008! Bookings are filling up quickly, so if you want to guarantee a place this year then do please get in touch as soon as possible.

Over the past couple of days we have undertaken a major task to net the lake, and have sold off a large quantity of the smaller fish from this year's incredible triple-spawning! We then transferred thirty-four 20lbs and 30lbs carp from the small lake to the big lake, and also added a few extra carp and pike to the existing stocks. Finally, we did some routine water checks on the lakes, and cut down between 50 and 60 trees in the surrounding area to clear a little space.

The site has been redesigned and expanded, and we have also added two new photo galleries, to show both the lakes, and the fish which have been caught in them! If you have taken any photos at Ghost Carp Lake and you'd like us to add them to the galleries, please email them to us.

Due to the warm weather, we had an impressive THREE spawnings this season, resulting in many, many small carp in the big lake. Over the winter we plan to net the lake to remove the majority of these. We will also transfer thirty-four 20lbs and 30lbs carp into the big lake, and there will be some more carp and a few pike added to the existing stocks. The smaller lake will then be a great venue for coarse fishermen who wish to indulge their passion for tench, roach and perch. Click here to find out more about different types of coarse fish.

We're finally nearing the end of the season. 2007 has been a great year for Ghost Carp Lake - with some amazing catches! Have a look in our new fish gallery to see some of the highlights. The biggest catch of the year weighed in at 44lb 4oz - which is 4oz heavier than Clarissa, Richard Walker's famous UK record-breaking catch from 1952. You can find out more about Richard Walker and other UK carp-fishing record-holders at the Carp Fishing UK website.

The Ghost Carp Lake website has a new developer! David Oliver and Sue Sharples, who own Nettle Web Design Ltd - a web design company based in Colchester - recently visited the lake for a short break, and agreed to take over management of our website. The first step will involve a redesign and expansion of the site, to include a lot more photos and more information about Ghost Carp Lake fishing holidays.
