The lakes are set in six and a half acres of rural land located in the beautiful and peaceful setting of the Loire valley, close to the Brittany border.
Two villages - St Pierre la Cour and La Bourgneuf la Forêt - are just a few minutes' drive away - where there is a small, well-stocked supermarket, several bars and good-value local restaurants, and of course a fishing-tackle shop!
Vitré
The historical city of Vitré is about 10 minutes' drive away from Ghost Carp Lake. Vitré is a medieval town originally built around Vitré Castle in the 11th century. It became a centre of trade in the 14th century, and many of the original buildings have been preserved to this day. The town has many narrow cobbled streets and alley-ways, and medieval buildings on nearly every corner!
The centre has a good selection of shops, with some fantastic restaurants and bars and a good night life. Click here to find out about things to do in Vitré...
Car parking in Vitré is easy, with free street parking right through the town centre, as well as many squares with very low-priced car parking. Vitré is on the main train route between Rennes and Paris, so there is a large station near the town centre, with regular direct trains to Rennes (30 mins), Le Mans (30 mins), and Paris (2 hours).
Rennes
Rennes is a large industrial town and a centre of commerce and culture. The town is divided by the Vilaine River into the old town, with elegant buildings and St. Pierre Cathedral, and the modern town, which is full of shops and restaurants, with a lively bar and club scene. It takes around half an hour to get there from Vitré, so it is easy to go there for an afternoon's shopping or an evening on the town!
